Rocket Bunny re-Build for 2012

There is a new tradition for New Year’s Eve – DRIFTING! Teesside Autodrome is the venue and folks travel far and wide to take part or just spectate. There’s no competition, just a full day of baffoonary and good times. There is space for 35 cars, and near enough all slots were taken pretty quickly. This is a very popular activity. Scotty had a new weapon of choice for the day, the drift missile car.

This was fettled up enough to be able to drift and as you can see, special bespoke livery was designed for the occasion. The car was basically there for anyone who wanted to have a go. And a few of us did have a go.

The track was damp and greasy all day. Splashes of rain every so often kept things slippy. This just meant that the car would spin out easier. But that didn’t spoil the fun.

Plenty fun, plenty frolics, plenty laughs. This is the way to work up your thirst before hitting the New Year drinkies.

Sunday 23rd October 2011 saw a drift day held at Teesside Autodrome. The day was split over the various track layouts and ran until 2300 or so. It seemed like a good excuse for a play and to run in the rebuilt SR20.Not much more to say about it really. A couple of passenger rides, a chill and a laugh. Just a nice lazy Sunday….

Scotty was asked to do some driving in a show a little different to the usual drift shows.

Cartoon Network, the creators of the Ben 10 cartoon, teamed up with Big Foot UK and came up with the Ben 10 Monster Truck Mania Show.

It is a live arena show depicting the TV show with four monster trucks dressed to look like aliens, a super bike stunt team playing the Forever Knights, a freestyle motorX team playing the Echo Echoes, Scotty and fellow driver Sean Taylor drive a Mazda RX8 depicting Ben 10 himself and a Dodge charger depicting Ben’s side kick Kevin Levin.

Scotty drives the Dodge in 2 scenes and the RX8 in one scene while Sean drives the Dodge in the scene where both cars are in the arena together.

It is a 2 hour show packed with motorized mayhem following a narrated story line with music and light show.

The O2 Arena in London (Millennium Dome) had 2 dates at the start of September selling out both nights. A week later and the NIA Arena in Birmingham also sold out 2 nights proving the show to be a great success.

The organizers are planning dates for next year in the UK, Europe and the middle east.

Scotty “is very much looking forward to next year”.

There is very little to say except that Awesomefest was just that – AWESOME!

I’ll let the pictures & video below tell their own story.

Finally, here’s a video of the weekend produced by Daniel Hovdahl.

The old war horse has been faithfully trailering the Rocket Bunny drift car around all over Europe for a few years now so decided it was time to tidy the old girl up. She now sports rear glass tinted to black. The old burgundy paint was rubbed down and 8 coats of matt black applied. Finally a DVD player was fitted and now she is good to serve for many more years to come.

An early start was on the cards to get from Hexham to Donington in time to get set up for the drift demos and passenger rides. When I say early I mean 4:30am kind of early :yawn and stretch: But with the Rocket Bunny loaded on the truck off we went on our merry way.

4 hours later and we were there – all be it stuck in a queue to get in. But we were there :more yawns and stretches:
The weather was looking very promising though, and it didn’t let us down. Blazing sunshine all day!

Once in it was straight to the paddock to unload the truck and set up the gazebos and sales stall. There is another S13 rocking the Rocket Bunny kit in the BDC. Justin Clarke’s white 180SX looks the part sat next to it’s big sister.

The morning started with signing on and a drivers briefing then it was straight into the passenger rides on the small track. There was a fairly long queue already formed and it was only around 10am. After a couple of hours on the small track and a spot of lunch it was off onto the main circuit for a little drift demo to please the crowds.

The day was rounded off on the small track again with passenger rides until all the tyres that we brought on rims were used up.

How to turn a car tyre into a motorbike tyre.

This was a fun way to spend a Sunday and great just having fun without the pressure of competition, and as Scotty put it “Another track conquered by the Bunny”. Next stop AwesomeFest!
